Wow, apparently January came and went. Oops! We had a wonderful Christmas. It was the first year that Kathryn understood that Santa was coming to her house, and that she made a list. Her wishes for an airplane and a train set/ table were granted, and she got lots of other fun toys too (Frozen dolls-- two Elsas, an Anna, and an Olaf; coloring stuff, play- do, Frozen- themed tent, Frozen wall hangings, etc). Carly got a monogrammed chair from Santa, along with cute baby dolls, bath toys, clothes, and a cool new push- walker. Lucky girls-- Santa was good. The New Year was rung in quietly with the accompaniment of Chinese food. And then back to school and regular life it was...
So, what are they up to?
C:
- celebrated her 1st birthday on 1/25. We got her a smash cake, and man, did she smash it right up. She wore her "Fun To Be 1!" hat, and her balloon shirt and had a blast. Joe's mother and brother came up during the day to help celebrate, and my parents stopped over later on. It was joyous seeing Carly light up when we sang to her, and to see her clap, clap, clap.
- is still couch- walking and walking with push toys but does not want to take those independent steps. She still loves being held, and I think we have enabled some laziness. :) Lately, more and more, we have had her "practice" her walking. She is still crawling at warp- speed though, and gets where she needs to be-- and then stands right up and tackles whatever it is she wants.
- seems to enjoy eating ANYTHING-- anything at all. We have not yet found a food this kid won't eat. From broccoli to poultry to fruits to cereal, this kid seems to constantly be saying, "Get in my belly!"
- I know I said I would do three per kid, but will add a fourth because time has passed so quickly-- she has started to taking regular baths in the tub-- sans special baby chair. She had an absolute blast with Kathryn in the tub the other night-- splashing like mad and showing off her big girl moves.
K:
- is currently loving on the movie Annie. It makes me so happy, because it was (is?!) one of my childhood favorites. She loves "Mr. Warbox" and "Peppa" and Molly and Sandy and "Poon- jah" and of course Annie herself. Her favorite tune from the film seems to be "It's a Knock- Knock Life," as she says. Lots of singing and dancing along!
- loves to assist in getting Carly ready for bed. I have to feed C her night- time bottle in the dark upstairs (C won't drink it if she is distracted), and K loves to come along so she can "pet" and kiss and soothe Carly while Carly feeds. It's so damn sweet.
- is getting a wee bit more argumentative and opinionated as we close in on age 3. It's cute SOMEtimes, but wow, does she have her moments! Some samples: "I don't LIKE this part!"; I don't LIKE this food [she is a picky- Nicky-- name any number of things and she will try to avoid]"; and tattling-- lots of tattling. We have been trying to instill "You only need to tell if someone is going to be hurt" but she doesn't seem to be living by that maxim yet. She also loves fighting bedtime still, and insists on making tents out of her and Carly's chairs and some blankets. The whole hiding and sneaking up thing is a hit.
- for her fourth item-- has been taking swim lessons for the past few weeks. At first, she was not a fan. She was terrified. But after a bit of time seeing that Joe or I would be with her in the water, she shook those fears off and has been up and running (dog- paddling? :)). She loves playing "Red Light, Green Light" and using the foam noodle and foam ball; jumping into the water, practicing getting in and out safely at the edge; showing off moves to her teacher Liz; and, recently, swimming without assistance.
