10-14-14

C:
- is eating lots of table foods now--- from Cheerios to puffs to shredded cheese to turkey.  I wouldn't say it's the neatest enterprise but the mess is cute, and she loves being "at the table" (in her highchair) with the rest of us.
- is mobile on the ground-- turning this way and that and moving from lying to sitting to kneeling-- and is all geared up in the crawl position, but has no desire to actually crawl still.  She will see an item she wants, push a few times forward and then just sort of say, 'Eh, it's not important.'  It's tough with two girls two years apart not to compare them-- I remind myself not to, but the comparisons pop into my head anyway sometimes.  I see pics of K crawling around and even standing and starting to walk with assistance at this age, but Carly is quite content where she is.  She still loves jumping around in the Jolly Jumper thing, and is reallllly loving her walker, but when it comes to making her own moves?  Nope, not into it.  She would rather sit around and babble and smile. :)
- had a great weekend at Nana and Pop's.  Joe and I had a wedding in NY.  It's tough with babies to see how they will do on those overnights, but she did really well-- from sleeping to eating to adjusting to the different house.  She , at first, wasn't a fan of Cammy, but he grew on her as the weekend went on.  She will learn--- who can resist that guy?!

K:
- is so excited about Halloween that I think she will burst.  She talks daily about the whole shebang: the candy, the "trick or treat," her doctor costume, and Carly's costume.  She wants to see her "punkins" on the front steps every day, and even gives each one a kiss.  The only thing she can't quite get is  why EVERY day can't be Halloween.  The whole waiting until Oct 31st thing she is not quite down with.
- is loving her new Play- Doh Fun Factory.  She goes nuts when she sees the machine spit out spaghetti or snake- like pieces.  It's a good thing SHE loves it, as her parents do not.  Of course we are thrilled that this "craft" lights her up and keeps her busy but if I find one more piece of that smelly, hardened blue crap on the floor... :)
- is becoming quite the manipulator at bed- time.  She has been fighting bed for a while, but her newest move is being a copy cat; she knows it's cute too.  After books (lately it's Goodnight, Little Bear, Guess How Much I Love You, Pinkalicious, Olivia, Pomelo, and Someday), when I get in bed with her at night (to lie with her for ten minutes, to convince her the dark is nothing to fear), I always review the day with her.  I got in the habit of saying, "I have a question."  She would say, "What?"  And I would ask something like, "What did you do today?"  The past several nights, after her eyes are supposed to be closed, she has whispered, "Mommy... I have a kess- chin."  I shouldn't play along at that point but I do.  I ask what, and she will say something such as, "What did you do with Cah- ly today?"  Hard to be mad at a girl who is only imitating.
She has SO many cute little sayings and "-isms" but I will pick a few to highlight:
                - "Are you not so happy?" when she detects one of us is angry.  Love that wording.
                - "My best friend is Cah- ly." (Now that just melts me.)
                - When riding her trike around the house, helmet on (she's doggone obsessed with that helmet): "I'm goin to a big partyyyyyyy... with all my frieeeends... in my helllllmet."
